Process Operations Training Programme

This programme has been developed in partnership between ESANZ, industry and The Western Institute of Technology Taranaki, WITT.

Qualification Overview

This qualification develops students’ knowledge and skills for entry level employment as Process Operators in the Energy and chemical processing industries. It covers introduction to process operations, safety and risk management, basic chemistry and thermodynamics, petrochemical processes, petroleum projects, gas testing and other operational and generic skill sets. It has been designed in partnership with WITT, with a significant amount of sponsored work placement where students gain a broad exposure.

This qualification is delivered in partnership with WITT.

 Entry requirements

  • 32 credits, including 8 at NCEA Level 1 in English, 12 at NCEA Level 1 in Maths, and 12 at NCEA Level 2 from Science, Computing, Engineering
  • Equivalent NZQF Unit Standards
  • A Level 4 National Certificate or trades qualification in an engineering or technology field
  • Applicants will also be required to undertake a drug test, provide written references and a police check and attend an interview.

This qualification has been designed with significant input from companies who employ Process Operators locally. Opportunities for career progression and employment in and beyond Taranaki exist for this specialised and in-demand occupational group.
